Friedman Conservation Easement

Sid Friedman was nominated to receive the 2009 Conservation Landowner Award from Yamhill SWCD for conservation practices he has implemented on his 169 acre property and for his extensive work to support resource lands in Yamhill county.  In part the nomination was due to the Sid protecting his property with a conservation easement in 2008.  His property is located west of Carlton off Meadow Lake Road.

Sid is a strong advocate for increasing and improving a sustainable agricultural and forestry economy.  He believes the agricultural and forest economy can flourish at the same time that we provide for livable

communities, meet housing for all income levels, and also provide for a diversified industrial economy.  friedman2

The easement was drafted to protect the oldest and largest trees located on the property.  Six old growth Douglas Fir were protected from cutting and about a dozen oak legacy trees.  Several tax lots were combined into one parcel which limited the number of potential building sites to the current dwelling.   Riparian areas along a year round and season creek were given a 50 foot buffer area.  Logging limitations were tied to a longer rotation than current practices with about an 80 year rotation.
