The Conservation Landowner Award is named after George E. Otte who performed much of the original soil mapping in Yamhill County. It has been awarded to over 40 landowners since 1966. Emphasis of this award is on long-term conservation planning and practice implementation to protect soil, water, and other natural resources. Cooperation with local conservation efforts is also judged favorably. Most commonly awarded to agricultural operations, winners have also included forestry operations and landowners managing their land for wildlife and recreation.
